Absolutely loved The Shieling and all it has to offer. Perfect location, perfect size and cosiness, perfect bedding and beds, perfect view and everything provided. We have had a bit a of hit and miss week with the weather and The Shieling just provided that warm haven when we were soaked through. We loved coming back to it each day. We all slept well. The WiFi was great which teens appreciated. Not to close to any busy hustle and bustle so was a lovely peaceful retreat. Yet was still close enough to shops, activities, boat trips and all the wonderful beaches in the area. The dog loved all the extras provided for her and she especially liked the chickens whom she tried to befriend, wagging her tail at from the garden. All in all we have stayed in many places over our travels but this place is at the top for all it provides and ar a fair price. We will be back for sure!

Visit Skye by boat from Mallaig...just check weather forecast first and book or you will be disappointed. Visit Loch Morar...absolutely stunning loch...Great Cross memorial up a hill in the village where there is good view of Steam Train and all the area. Definitely check out ALL accessible beaches and explore over the rocks when one ends because another one always begins soon after....also check tide times. Take a drive to Glenuig for a lovely scenic drive and a lovely beach beyond. Great vast bit of sea for a good sunset too. Take a drive to Castle Tioram which is very atmospheric. Get into Arisaig and meet people! Visit the shops and the Lands Museum which gives some info on history. Look out for the Steam train everywhere! Always fun to see and get some great shots. Was nice seeing heading into Mallaig. There are also many better places to see it than Glenfinnan which is often crowded. Walk to Prince Charlie's cave at Borrodale Beach, we saw Stags as well as many ither notable wildlife there. Visit Fort William for a bit more buzz if you like that. Treasures of the Earth museam and the old washed up boat at Corpach or better yet drive down Glen Nevis and see the waterfalls under Ben Nevis. Because of weather we didn't travel out to Rum or Eigg which we wanted to but will next time, nor did we get to Rhu Point (althoug our older kids did it practically in a storm). And most of all don't be afraid to venture out in the wet, sometimes it's better! Enjoy the area as it has so much offer!

The shelling was a very comfortable and pleasant place to stay, we have had a lovely week. It was perfectly located near the coast and in a beautiful part of the West Highlands. A good base for exploring some of the surrounding small Isles, and Lochs. We had rain most days but still found something to do everyday. It was a real treat when we had a visit in the near field from 4 stags on our last night and the next morning.

The Arisaig Shellfish Shack, we pre-ordered a CRAB-ulous platter, which was delicious, shame they were only open at the weekend. The Jacobite train, don’t bother with the expense unless you can get morning tickets, they only run the steam train in the morning trip. You can’t choose where you sit, and as a couple we were placed with some noisy teenagers! Scotrail is a lot cheaper with the same view. Day trip to Isle of Skye, we drove round and got the ferry back (morning ferry was full so pre-book well in advance if you don’t want to drive round) but beautiful anyway. The Glenfinnan viaduct is well worth a visit, but be prepared to get there 2 hours before the train comes for a good spot and again only the morning for the steam train.

We loved your house and had a fantastic stay, it was a real home from home and had everything we needed and more. We loved the dog goodies, the tags were a lovely touch and felt our dog was welcome. Looking forward to coming back.

We found a dog friendly taxi driver. His name was Lowrie 07876807693. He asked for the dog to be put in the boot area.

Outstanding self catering holiday home, perfect location. The house is very comfortable, clean and well equipped. We had an amazing week despite the awful weather and all fell in love both with The Sheilling and the location. We are a family with two additional needs boys one is a teenager and the other a toddler, they had the best time exploring all the beaches and villages! Great base for exploring from we managed a trip to Knoydart and Skye during our stay. Planning to return in the future to explore more.

Be prepared for any and all weather! We ended up needing warm clothes and waterproofs which is most unusual even for Scotland in July! Look at the weather forecast when you arrive and if there are any islands / boat trips you really want to do arrange them ASAP! We had planned a boat trip for our last day to look for wildlife but the weather further deteriorated seeing all boats cancelled! We ate out at the hotel in Arisaig - fantastic food and staff. The marina was great too.
