We stopped in the Pound cottage which was fabulous. It is a great base for travelling around North Yorkshire - we visited the local town of Selby that had a good selection of shops including the big four supermarkets. We visited the designer outlet and then also used its park and the ride to visit York which was amazing! We even had a day out at the beach visiting Bridlington 😀 The cottage catered for our every need - from a full range of cooking equipment/utensils to the en-suite wet room. There were plenty of hand rails and equipment to assist with my mobility issues. Even little things like having a rise and recline chair in the lounge just made our holiday extra special. This is the first time we have been on holiday and had all the appropriate facilities to make us feel welcome and comfortable in every way. Rod and Peggy were welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. They assisted with travelling instructions and recommendations. The cake waiting in the fridge for our arrival was most welcome 😊 It was lovely and quiet and will definitely be visiting again in the near future.

Tips for other travellers
If you visit York and want to go down The Shambles, if you are in a wheelchair make sure you have extra cushioning as the medieval cobbles require some serious shock absorbers!!! The park and ride is great for travelling around York. It is inexpensive to use - if you have a bus pass make sure you take it with you for a great discount. There is a ramp to get onto the bus and room for one wheelchair in a designated place - the drivers were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The designer outlet is all inside so no risk of getting cold or wet. There is so many disabled parking bays available - more than I have ever seen before. If you decide to visit York Minster and do the tour, contact them as a carer can go in for free instead of the £20 each. Don’t miss out on visiting Betty’s Tea Room - don’t be put off if there is a queue to get in - it is worth the wait and they are so helpful if you have mobility issues with staff assisting with a ramp to get in/out and generally helping with advice and especially with visiting the shop before you leave. I’m also going to be ordering some Easter treats from them in the next couple of weeks as we were that impressed 😊

South Newlands is a very quiet and relaxing place to stay. Peggy and Rod are always helpful and are quick to respond to any problems, big or small, that may arise.

It’s only 15 minutes to York from Riccall and it’s not too far to Scarborough or Whitby on the East coast. Yorkshire is a beautiful county with lots of places to visit and all ea as I’ll accessible from South Newlands!
